Use this runbook when monitoring detects a log stream without a stable leader. Measure failover duration in your environment; do not assume a fixed SLA without a recent drill.

Prerequisites

  • OCP or Grafana access to log stream metrics.
  • OBProxy endpoint documented for app teams.
  • Break-glass SSH to observer nodes (read-only diagnostics).

Automatic recovery

OceanBase elects a new leader from followers with the highest committed LSN. No manual step required if quorum intact.

When to escalate

  • Split-brain symptoms (two leaders reported).
  • Quorum loss (minority partition).
  • Repeated elections on same log stream within 1 hour.
